Documents checklist 2020

Applicants are required to submit the following documents by e mail  to sns@sns.edu.pl

When doing so give the subject of your message as Application along with your chosen discipline: Philosophy, Political Studies, Psychology, Sociology.

Each attachment should be clearly labelled using the number and  name of document shown in bold in the list below

eg  2. Master’s Degree diploma

In addition, documents in English should be labelled “in English’

1. Completed application form:

2. Master’s Degree diploma or an equivalent certificate of graduation or an official document from the applicant’s university stating when the defence is due

3. Academic Curriculum Vitae (in English)

4. Statement of purpose (in English, not more than one page) Statement of purpose that outlines your relevant training and research experience, academic interests and goals, and the reason you feel that the Graduate School for Social Research at the Polish Academy of Sciences is the right place to pursue your PhD.

5. A concise description of your planned research (in English, c. 1500 words  plus bibliography) stating your research question, and the relevance of your expected findings for your chosen discipline, your approach to the problem, and if possible: hypotheses, how you plan to conduct your research, and expected outcomes.

6. Letter(s) of Recommendation (not more than two) at least one from your masters’ thesis supervisor, or another member of academic staff  who knows your academic work and ability to conduct your own research.

7. Your Masters thesis (with a summary in English) or a selected academic publication (with a summary in English)

8. Official transcript or record of the applicant’s university work ( which lists all courses completed and grades received during your Masters degree studies)

9. Photocopy of passport (in the case of non-Polish applicants)

10. Confirmation of payment of the application fee (200 PLN or equivalent in USD or EUR). The fee is waived for candidates from non-EU countries

11. English language certificate –one of those listed in the section ‘language requirements’ or a request to take the School’s own language test if admitted to the second stage of the applications process (does not apply to applicants who have completed their degree (BA or MA) in English

PLEASE NOTE:

Although we accept electronic copies of diplomas and transcripts during the application process, successful candidates will be asked to present originals at the School in order to confirm that the copies sent are true copies.

To convert the currencies, students may refer to currency converter sites on the Internet (for example http://www.xe.com/ucc/) or inquire with a local bank or travel agency.

All payments must be free of charge for the beneficiary, so that the GSSR receives the full amount established.

The description of the payment must specify the candidate’s full name and the reason for the payment
