Abstract
The workshop will share an insider view of the process of submission and review for an international journal (Social Science & Medicine). The presenters will give examples of what Editors consider when receiving papers, explain the peer review process, ethical publishing and resources available to help authors, and key tips for success particular to SSM’s medical anthropology desk. Opportunities to become involved with journals will also be noted, and there will be a Q&A session.

Editor Biography:
Professor Alexandra Brewis, Senior Editor Medical Anthropology, Social Science & Medicine.
Alexandra (Alex) Brewis is a medical anthropologist and Regents and President’s Professor in the School of Human Evolution and Social Change at Arizona State University and serves as Founding Director of ASU’s Center for Global Health. She is an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and recently served as President of the Human Biology Association. She has published over 230 journal articles and 8 books, including the award-winning Lazy, Crazy, and Disgusting: Stigma and the Undoing of Global Health (JHUP Press). Alex has been the Medical Anthropology Senior Editor for Social Science & Medicine since 2022.
The workshop is organized by Małgorzata Rajtar (IFiS, Polish Academy of Sciences), Eva-Maria Knoll (ISA Austrian Academy of Sciences), and Irina Tomescu-Dubrow (GSSR/IFiS, Polish Academy of Sciences).
