ABSTRACT
The introduction of generative AI will inevitably accelerate the production of vast quantities of research work, thereby fundamentally altering the conventional knowledge production and dissemination practices in the social sciences. While this development presents significant opportunities to make the field of knowledge production more democratic and inclusive than ever before, it also raises concerns regarding the potential overproduction, quality, and impact of knowledge. This seminar explores some facets of the paradox of knowledge overproduction in the era of generative AI, drawing from a variety of social theoretical perspectives. The presentation will examine the social and ethical implications of AI-powered overproduction of knowledge, as well as potential strategies to address this challenge and promote a more democratic and socially responsible approach to knowledge production in the social sciences.
The seminar is open to all.
