ABSTRACT

This Seminar focuses on GSSR PhD students’ projects from the perspective of academic publishing. Many scholars from Poland publish in international journals in area studies or in discipline-specific journals, and these journals generally have their own specificity. There are also field journals that attract submissions from scholars representing a variety of disciplines yet studying a particular topic. This roundtable brings together PhD students and researchers with a strong editorial experience to discuss how to avoid common mistakes when preparing an article for publication consideration, and how the academic journal system works. We will understand the “Do’s and Don’ts” of article submission to academic journals on the Ministry list and answer questions about students’ research projects. Topics include selecting journals, communicating with them, policy on Open Access publication (e.g. Voluntas is a Transformative/Hybrid journal), and publicly available resources to consult when working on a manuscripts (e.g., a checklist to avoid common mistakes and author tutorials). Roundtable participants come from Sociology (Galia Chimiak, editor-in-chief of Voluntas: International Journal of Voluntary and Nonprofit Organizations, published by Springer Nature), Philosophy (Jacek Malinowski, editor-in-chief of Studia Logica, published by Springer), and Psychology (Przemysław Tomalski, review editor for Frontiers in Psychology, published by Frontiers Media).
