Resolution of the IFiS Scientific Council on Ukraine

Resolution of the Scientific Council of the IFiS PAN

adopted on April 6, 2022

The Scientific Council of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences declares that students, doctoral students and researchers who, due to the criminal attack of the Russian troops on Ukraine, find the continuation of their scientific work impossible or difficult, can count on the extensive help of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Graduate School for Social Sciences, which runs the doctoral program. We join the international movement of scientists who unequivocally and unconditionally condemn Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, which has caused the death and suffering of so many people as well as unimaginable material losses.

We strongly condemn all Russian academics who do not oppose this criminal aggression, and in particular those who support it, such as the Union of Russian Rectors and the council of rectors of Universities of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region. Such an attitude forever closes the possibility of international scientific cooperation to such people.

At the same time, we wish to express our support and readiness to help the members of the Russian academic community who have expressed their opposition to the Russian attack on Ukraine and the related disinformation campaign targeting Russian society. In particular, those who, in the face of the attack on Ukraine, decided to leave their country in an act of protest.

The position articulated in this resolution will find expression in the internal documents of the IFiS PAN.
